The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) and the Department of Medical Oncology at TJU in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is excited to announce a new faculty position who will serve as the Associate Director (AD) of Population Science in SKCCC and the Chief of the Division of Population Science in the Department of Medical Oncology. The AD will be a senior executive leader who will report to the director of SKCCC and the Chair of the Department. The candidate should be an accomplished funded investigator (PhD, ScD, MD, or MD/PhD) that has demonstrated ability to build multi-disciplinary teams and has an expertise and research focus in one or more of the following:

  • Molecular & genetic cancer epidemiology
  • Cancer risk assessment and screening
  • Discovering & validating biomarkers of cancer risk, progression and prognosis
  • Cancer prevention and control
  • Behavioral intervention in Cancer Care
  • Cancer survivorship
  • Outcomes research
  • Palliative care
  • Smoking/tobacco use
  • Geriatric Oncology
  • Health Disparities in Cancer
  • Implementation science


Investigators dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care for diverse populations through research who have an established track record of grant funding are strongly encouraged to apply.

The role will focus on enhancing population science research within the SKCCC and the Department; develop strategic initiative with basic, clinical, population and translational researchers throughout the Jefferson Enterprise, and expand community outreach, engagement and education efforts.

The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) is an NCI-designated consortium cancer center that includes researchers from Thomas Jefferson University and Drexel University. The SKCCC has just achieved comprehensive status, and its community outreach and engagement component is ranked as "exceptional". The SKCC has a successful population science Cancer Risk and Control research program with over $13m in peer-reviewed funding and 34 full members from 15 departments at Jefferson and Drexel. Jefferson has a network of 18 hospitals in the region, providing tremendous opportunities for data science and population health research.

Recruited faculty will be provided generous start-up funds, a competitive salary, and modern facilities, along with administrative and infrastructure services. Successful candidates will get access to cancer registries, and the evolving resources of various types of cancer biorepositories developed within the cancer center. Existing investigators work in biomarkers, disparities, obesity, behavioral studies, survivorship, toxicity reduction and aging. Successful candidates will have opportunities to mentor trainees at all levels from the Jefferson College of Population Health and Drexel University's Dornsife School of Public Health. In addition to membership in the SKCCC, primary and secondary faulty appointment(s)/affiliation(s) may be one or more departments/divisions of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College and/or the College of Population Health at Jefferson.
