Purpose
  • The ACHIO AVP Medical Informatics Officer for the Region is responsible for providing effective leadership and collaborating with the CHIO, CCIO and other health system leaders, to assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive informatics strategy that focuses on how health information technology can be adopted to provide safe, high-quality, cost-effective care, and help people live the healthiest lives possible.
  • The ACHIO AVP Medical Informatics Officer directs and interfaces with all levels of the organization. This position requires a visionary leader, with sound knowledge of healthcare, business management, innovation, information systems and technology, and a leader who proactively works with others in Informatics teams and users to expand virtual health and population health strategies. This position is responsible for innovation and the optimization of current technologies and evaluating emerging technologies to support the continuum of health care.
  • The ACHIO AVP Medical Informatics Officer assists in the management of multi-disciplinary Informatics teams across the health system and facilitates activities of the team for system-wide delivery and support of technology systems; while also assisting in the management of key projects or initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
  • The ACHIO AVP Medical Informatics Officer reports to the CHIO.

Job Essentials
  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Assists in the development and execution of a comprehensive informatics strategy, aligned with the healthcare system's mission and goals, while providing visionary leadership and direction to the Informatics team, ensuring a culture of data excellence and continued improvement.
    • Identifies opportunities for technological innovation and digital transformation to enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, while also collaborating with clinical leaders to optimize the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other clinical systems.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Leads, mentors, and develops a high-performing team of information technology (IT) professionals, while promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the DTS department.
    • Identifies and addresses skill gaps, providing training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborates with clinical and administrative leaders to understand technological needs and priorities, while fostering strong relationships with external partners, vendors, and service providers to ensure effective delivery of technology solutions.
  • Project and Program Management:
    • Leads and oversees major technology projects and programs, ensuring on-time delivery, within scope, and within budget.
    • Monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the impact and success of technology projects.

    • Aids in the development and deployment of advanced analytics and business intelligence solutions and provides actionable insights to support clinical and operational decision-making.

Minimum Requirements
  • MD or DO
  • Active medical license.
  • Experience working in informatics, providing data-based solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare IT trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Certification in Clinical Informatics, or Master's degree in Informatics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Certification in IT Management, Project Management (e.g. PMP, ITIL), or a related field.
  • Experience leading teams in an Integrated Health system or non-profit organization.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards applicable to Healthcare IT (HIPAA).
