Job Details
This leader will continue to conceptualize the design and delivery of new and existing obesity efforts and will lead cross-functional teams through implementation to assure the program is maintained according to plan and within budget.
The position includes being responsible for strategic planning and implementation of obesity key initiatives across Cleveland Clinic Enterprise including Florida, United Kingdom and Abu Dhabi, as well as developing and monitoring outcome measures, and monitoring and updating processes and related policies to ensure an efficient flow of patients through the Cleveland Clinic health system.
This position will assist in the development of educational and public relations materials for obesity treatment.
Academic involvement in Obesity education and clinical research in obesity related diseases are expected.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Matrixed reporting to the Enterprise Chief of Staff Office and Medical Specialty Institute
- Works closely with Digestive Disease Institute to facilitate the referral and workflow of patients candidates for bariatric/metabolic surgery
- Performs the management functions of strategy, goal setting, planning, organizing, directing, and budgetary accountability for the Obesity Center
- Exhibits strong leadership traits, especially in leading and managing change, as well as in the development and ongoing management of strategic planning and process improvement
- Directs, delegates, and oversees work efforts as appropriate to insure the best possible delivery of service and high patient satisfaction and experience
- Works cooperatively to maintain a work environment that promotes mutual respect and professionalism
- Collaborates with Department Chairs, Institute Chiefs, and leadership throughout the organization
- Demonstrates organizational commitment through active participation in special projects, committees, and teams that support the enterprise mission, vision, and goals
- Establishes criteria, design, and organization of the Obesity Center
- Works with different teams to ensure that patients are being appropriately triaged, and assists with the insurance approval process
- In conjunction with Billing Department establishes standards for chart coding to ensure accuracy and maximized reimbursement opportunities
- Identifies required equipment, personnel, and facilities to appropriately resource Obesity efforts
- Identifies standards, develops clinical protocols, and ensures they are evidence-based, aligned, and integrated across the continuum of care
- Actively leads and manages quality and outcomes for all Obesity Programs, including a quality dashboard and performance management
- Projects a positive patient and caregiver experience, and responds effectively when dealing with patients suffering obesity, family members, staff, and physicians, integrating Patients First values into each day
- Ensures all Obesity care sites are maintained in proper condition and that basic environmental safety standards are met; ensures program caregiver compliance with the hospital safety program
- Demonstrates excellent organizational, collaboration, management, execution
- Works within and outside CC enterprise community to develop partnerships that connect patients with community resources for sustained successful outcomes
- Partners with Research Institute to continue advancing CC understanding of effective obesity treatment
- Partners with Education Institute to continue developing curriculum to train existing and future Obesity Specialists, Primary Care physicians, clinicians, surgeons, and support staff
- Performs other duties as assigned in a professional, cooperative, and responsible manner, reflecting positively on the department leadership
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an accredited medical school; doctorate degree in medicine certification/licensure required. Postdoctoral training in Obesity Medicine and/or Obesity Surgery strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 5 years experience with leadership roles in the field of obesity. Strong clinical management experience, including leading cross-functional high-level obesity interdisciplinary teams and initiatives emphasizing quality management and improvement. Academic appointment and strong research credentials will also be required.
