Job Details

Cleveland Clinic, one of the worlds most distinguished academic medical centers, announces a search for the System Department Chair of Hospital Medicine. The Department of Hospital Medicine is one of five Departments within the Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI) and has Divisions in Ohio and Florida. The Department collaborates with the other four IHI Departments of Emergency Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care, Infectious Disease, and Anesthesiology. These departments reflect the ongoing rapid growth of the Integrated Hospital Care Institutes activities throughout Cleveland Clinic.

The Cleveland Clinic Department of Hospital Medicine is one of the largest in the United States with nearly 300 physicians and over 100 advanced practice providers in Ohio and Florida. The Department is committed to excellence in patient care, research, education, and advocacy. They deliver inpatient clinical services both in tertiary and local community hospital settings, serve as teaching attendings for resident teams, and have a robust perioperative/consultative presence in collaboration with Anesthesiology as part of the Center for Perioperative Medicine. Additionally, Department hospitalists actively teach and precept medical students in the Lerner College of Medicine in a variety of faculty roles and are engaged in scholarship surrounding various aspects of clinical care delivery, education, quality of care, and patient experience.

The ideal candidate will have national recognition for their experience and achievements in clinical care, teaching, and research. Applicants should have a record of excellence in mentoring and career development of faculty, residents, and medical students.

Reporting to the Institute Chief, the Department Chair will lead the team in establishing and ensuring Safety, Quality & Patient Experience standards for the specialty across the enterprise. The Chair will mainly focus on long-term strategic planning for Institute service lines and act as the lead physician executive for Hospital Medicine and will collaborate with Institute, market, and shared services leaders to define and achieve the vision and strategic goals of the specialty and the Cleveland Clinic. The Chair will also set the vision for research, education, and innovation for Hospital Medicine in all markets, motivate and encourage providers to accomplish results through relationship building and diplomacy, support a safe and engaging work environment for caregivers within the department, and oversee physician conduct in all markets with Institute Chief and Market Chief of staff.

A faculty appointment at a rank that matches their experience is available at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Board Certification and eligibility for licensure in the State of Ohio is required.
