Faculty in the Department of Pediatrics will contribute to the departments vision to advance the science, training, and clinical service delivery across the Duke SOM and the Duke Health System (DHS). To accomplish this vision, faculty will develop their individual portfolio across all three missions (research, education & training, clinical) as appropriate, and are expected to actively collaborate with investigators, educators, and clinicians across the SOM and DHS.

WORK PERFORMED

The precise breakdown of a facultys work across all three missions of the department (research, education and training, clinical) is expected to vary between faculty, and will be subject to ongoing review and adjustment by the faculty members division chief, department chair, DCRI Therapeutic Area Leader, and faculty member.

As appropriate, this includes an understanding of any regulatory requirements for data management and handling, analyses and reporting. Faculty are expected to apply for and win intra- and extra-mural funding. This includes awards driven primarily by the faculty, as well as collaborative awards with others across the SOM. Faculty are also expected to present results of their research work both internally and externally, and submit it for publication to peer reviewed journals. Faculty will serve as a liaison between the DCRI and other researchers across the Duke School of Medicine. It is expected that liaising will result in productive scientific collaborations as evidenced by joint presentations and publications, grant applications, and other academic output between the DCRI and other SOM faculty.

Education and Training Activities

Educational activities include but are not limited to: mentoring; giving lectures; leading seminars and small group teachings; and bedside education. As appropriate, faculty are encouraged to collaborate with educators and mentors across the SOM.

Clinical Service Activities

Where appropriate, faculty may provide clinical services to patients treated at DHS. Such clinical service delivery will be closely coordinated with the relevant SOM departments and centers, and DHS service lines and providers.

Minimum Requirements

An MD, PhD, or PharmD degree and demonstrated commitment towards research, education, or clinical service are required. Significant prior experience in but not limited to clinical research experience, for both government and industry projects.
