The Center for Neurocritical Care at the Northwell Health System and the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell is seeking neurointensivists to join its expanding neurocritical care program. Northwell Health is New York State’s largest health care provider and private employer. With a network of 21 hospitals, 3 skilled nursing facilities, multiple specialty programs and institutes, and research facilities that include the renowned Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and the Cold Spring Harbor Labs, Northwell provides integrated medical care that is unmatched within the New York metropolitan region and Long Island.

North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), located in Manhasset Long Island, is the main academic campus for Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. With over 800 beds, North Shore is the only center that has achieved both ACS verified Level 1 Trauma Center designation and Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from the Joint Commission within the region.

About the Center for Neurocritical Care:

The Center is comprised of 17 board certified/fellowship trained neurointensivists who currently provide in-house neurocritical care coverage at North Shore University Hospital, Staten Island University Hospital, South Shore University Hospital, Phelps Hospital in Westchester County, and Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. The NSUH Neurosurgical Unit is a 16 bed closed subspecialty unit staffed 24/7 by neurointensivists, fellows, residents and physician assistants with the full-range of multimodal monitoring capability. A new neurointensive care unit is currently under construction as part of the advanced surgical pavilion and will be open Spring 2024. At 22 beds, the ICU will be hardwired and fully equipped for advanced multimodal neuromonitoring. The Center, in partnership with the Northwell Health Tele-ICU program, has developed a novel e-NeuroICU program which provides emergent neurocritical care consultations to emergency rooms and ICUs throughout the health system. Neurocritical care faculty actively participates in NIH, industry, and investigator-initiated clinical trials including StrokeNET in which Northwell participates as a regional hub, and is supported by an acute care research nurse, coordinators, and departmental director of clinical research programs. The Center participates in both UCNS and CAST accredited fellowship programs training a total of five fellows each year and is currently applying for ACGME accreditation.

About the successful candidate:

The candidate will be BE/BC in neurocritical care with strong educational, clinical, and leadership skills capable of leading a large multidisciplinary ICU team. Candidates will have clinical appointments at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level through the Zucker School of Medicine and must be eligible for licensure in the State of New York. Candidates with a track-record of clinical or basic science research are especially encouraged to apply and will be supported by a robust research infrastructure.
