Responsibilities

Looking for a new opportunity with FLEXIBILITY and TIME for family and outdoor activities in the Ozark mountains? Our Springfield early-mid career practice is looking to grow our group of 4 neonatologists and 6 NNPs by adding one additional BC/BE neonatologist. This group provides the unique opportunity to practice in a manageable environment and still care for a handful of infants who are acutely ill or extremely premature.

The ideal physician candidate has at least 3 years of experience, desires a private practice model following evidence-based practice, and is a team player who likes to have fun while taking care of business. There are opportunities for leadership, especially in POCUS or resuscitation, and we encourage individuals to develop expertise in their own area of interest that can be shared with the group. We are flexible as to part- or full-time coverage if we find someone who is the right fit for our group

Neonatologist work schedule

• Approximately 6-7 shifts/month as the primary neonatologist providing routine daytime care (IN HOUSE routinely 8 am to 5 pm) with AT-HOME call and backup for 24/7 IN-HOUSE NNP for the remainder of the 24-hr shift

o Average daily census of 25, split between 1-2 neos and 1-2 NNPs

o Average 34 admits monthly inclusive of 2-3 born under 1500 grams

• Approximately 6-7 shifts/month as backup neonatologist providing routine daytime care for about 5-8 Level II babies (IN HOUSE approximately 3-5 hours/day)

• Attend very-high risk deliveries (under 27 weeks, major anomalies, etc.)

• Provide all aspects of AAP Level III care (no ECMO, no cardiac surgery)

o High-frequency ventilation

o Inhaled nitric oxide

o Total body cooling with 24-hour video EEG

o Bedside US machine

o Donor milk with in-unit milk tech preparation

NICU environment

• State-of-the-art, 46-bed Level-III single patient room NICU

• Skilled NNPs provide 24-hour, in-house coverage

• Procedural nursing team who attends high-risk deliveries and provides NICU transport services

• NICU-dedicated SLP, PT, OT, RT, and pharmacy specialists 7 days a week

• EPIC and Baby Steps Cloud EMRs

• Pediatric sub-specialists provide coverage in-person or via telehealth

• Highly-trained and inquisitive nursing staff

Located in scenic southwest Missouri, Springfield is the third largest city (population 170,000) in Missouri. We are located less than 1 hour to Branson, 2 hours to Kansas City, and 3 hours to St Louis. Springfield is “hometown friendly” with a cost of living that is 13% below the national average. One of the major factors attracting people to the Springfield area is the low cost of housing which is 25% below the national average. People travel from all over southwest and central Missouri to shop at Costco and the famous Buc-ee’s. We are a college town with 9 public and private colleges, including Missouri State University. We have shopping, museums, restaurants, theaters, a zoo and fairgrounds, parks, and many caves to explore. The Double AA team for the St Louis Cardinals offers a glimpse of future (and sometimes, current) major league players. Afford the new home you’ve always wanted, simplify your commute, and enrich your life amid the natural beauty we call home.

This is an opportunity to work at a facility which is located in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPS), or Medically Underserved Area/Population (MUA/MUP).
