Job Details

The Northwell Health Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks a renal pathologist to join a team of two renal pathologists. Northwell Health includes 23 award-winning hospitals and more than 850 community-based practice locations throughout Long Island, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Westchester. The annual volume of renal pathology cases is approximately 800-850, which includes both adult, pediatric, and allograft biopsies. Among these cases, about 80-90% are native kidney biopsies, while 10-20% are transplant kidney biopsies. This role is supported by a team of 3 immunofluorescence technicians and 2 dedicated electron microscopy technicians.

Eligible candidates should be subspecialty trained in Renal Pathology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with a friendly and knowledgeable team of nephrologists, transplant nephrologists, surgeons, and pediatric nephrologists. Excellent communication skills, combined with a strong foundation of knowledge, will be essential for this role.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside trainees at various levels and from diverse specialties, fostering a collaborative learning environment. A strong commitment to education and teaching will be highly valued. Additionally, the renal pathology team collectively leads three monthly conferences, further emphasizing the importance of academic engagement.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine spans all hospital clinical laboratory sites, with over 150 pathologists and clinical scientists. The Greenvale-based Anatomic Pathology Services unit practices in a sub-specialty model, with 52 anatomic pathologists representing all AP subspecialties, and over 120,000 surgical pathology and 190,000 cytopathology case accessions per year. In turn, the Northwell Health Laboratory Service Line is one of the largest integrated laboratory systems in the country, with approximately 30 million billable tests per year system wide.

We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Physicians will be employed as members of Northwell Health Physician Partners, the seventh largest medical group in the country. Academic appointment to the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell is commensurate with credentials and experience.
