The Northwell Transplant Institute and the division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Northwell Health are seeking a transplant pulmonologist to serve as Medical Director of Lung Transplantation. This leadership position will help implement the vision of comprehensive advanced lung disease and transplant care across the entire Northwell system. This position will require from the ideal candidate strong clinical, administrative, investigative, and educational involvement.

The lung transplant program is based at Northshore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY and is part of the newly established Northwell Transplant Institute. The Transplant Institute combines all solid organ transplant programs which include the heart, lung, liver, and kidney programs, under one umbrella. The Transplant Institute has a strong partnership with the Departments of Medicine, Cardiology, and Cardiothoracic Surgery as well as Northwell’s Cardiovascular Institute. The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine has over 35 faculty members with active subspecialty programs in Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, Cystic Fibrosis, Interventional Pulmonology as well as an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Program for acute lung injury/ARDS, among other subspecialty areas of expertise. The position includes opportunities for educational activities with trainees including Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellows, residents, and medical students as well as the opportunity to pursue translational research in lung transplantation.

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Board certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
  • Fellowship trained in lung transplantation
  • Minimum of 6 years of attending level transplant pulmonary experience at an established lung transplant program
  • Extensive experience in the evaluation and clinical care of pre and post lung transplant patients in the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • Leadership experience in a healthcare setting, preferably within a large health system or academic medical center
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
