Duties

• The primary purpose of this position is: To provide the aspects of general internal medicine care in accordance withguidelines established by the American College of Physicians at a Military Treatment Facility (MTF).

  ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS OR OBJECTIVES:
  The organizational goals and objectives of this position are to: Provide comprehensive adult medical careencompassing a cross section of patient cases from wellness checks to those with complex, acute, and chronicdiseases.
  DUTY 1:
  Serves as an Internal Medicine physician performing diagnostic and treatment procedures involving a full range ofcases from those where the patients have common ailments to the very difficult. Provides all aspects of InternalMedicine medical care in accordance with guidelines established by the American College of Physicians. Performsevaluations to include review of medical records and patient/family histories and physical examinations of complexmedical patients in both input and outpatient settings. Directs management of general medical care, includinganticipatory guidance, patient/family education, preventive counseling, disease treatment and coordination of care.Determines diagnoses, orders diagnostic test as needed, and interprets. Performs diagnostic procedures asapplicable. Prescribes and administers medications and other therapeutic measures. Performs emergency treatment incases of serious injury or illness and recommends arrangements for hospitalizations and surgery. Makes referrals toother treatment facilities. Serves as consultant to other professionals regarding internal medicine cases. Preparesappropriate consultative reports to requesting providers. Participates in on-call and after-hours call duties includingavailability for emergency consultation, timely response, and provision of advance life support techniques andtherapies. Ensures appropriate follow-up and documentation of all clinical and diagnostic procedures IAW theappropriate authorized medical accreditation associations, including the use of applicable computer-based systems.May provide clinical supervision and teaching to students, interns, and residents on the inpatient ward and/oroutpatient clinic as appropriate. Prepares didactic lectures on topic of current internal medicine interests and advisesstudents, interns, and residents with regard to research activities, as applicable. Participates in facility anddepartment staff education as required and maintains familiarity with the literature and current standards of internalmedicine care. Ensures that performance of duties complies with TRICARE, the Joint Commission (TJC), AccreditationAssociation for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), and other applicable regulatory standards. Follow safety andinfection control regulations. May be asked to serve on hospital/clinic committees as deemed appropriate by the MTF
  leadership.
• DUTY 2:
  Provides specialized medical care concerned with the physical, emotional, and social health of adults. Performs dutiesin the consultation, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of cases ranging from routine to difficult. Performs invasiveand noninvasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as specified in the credential and privilege lists. Duties arecharacterized by the need for diagnostic skill, the exercise of independent judgment and making of authoritativedecisions, with regard to treatment procedures. Symptoms of presenting patients are often subtle or may haveoverlapping symptoms due to the presence of more than one condition or ailment, or the symptoms might beindicative of either a simple or complicated diagnostic and/or testing procedure. Considerable ingenuity is required inidentifying these symptoms and developing a proper treatment regimen. Independently formulates full treatment andmanagement regimens based on sound diagnoses consistent with current and/or evidence based clinical practiceguidelines. Coordinates with facility and community resources to provide multi-disciplinary comprehensive care to allpatients, taking into account factors such as new and/or emerging procedures and techniques and the patient'spersonal history, as well as information gained through diagnostic tests. Provides advice by telephone and/or inperson to other physicians, non-physician providers, and nursing and para-professional staff on the care of patientswith urgent, emergent, and non-urgent medical problems. Orders the appropriate laboratory, x-ray, and otherdiagnostic tests; interprets the total medical evidence; incorporates information into an accurate diagnosis orappraisal; institutes proper treatment and patient care. Conducts examination of adults. Takes complete medicalhistories. May provide Pre-and Post-Deployment health assessments as well as Preventive Health Assessments(PHA), addressing, managing, and documenting medical issues pertaining to the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP),Security Clearances, Overseas Clearances, Pre-Confinement evaluations, Line of Duty Determination (LOD), andOccupational and fitness for duty medical evaluations -- all of which will be performed for active duty, reserve, andNational Guard members as well as eligible civilian, DoD, and dependent beneficiaries.
• DUTY
  Serves as member of the professional medical staff and complies with hospital plans and policies to meet accreditingagencies' (AAAHC or TJC) requirements. Participates in continuing education programs to update and maintain skillsand knowledge in accordance with MTF and unit policies including department in-services education. Activelyparticipates and contributes to medical oversight activities to include peer review programs. Serves as clinicalpreceptor for other professional providers which may include other Physicians, Physician Assistants, AdvancedPractice Nurses, etc. Participates in hospital/clinic committee work as determined by the Chief of the Medical Staffcommensurate with other physicians of the same specialty performing like duties (i.e. Credentials, Pharmacy &Therapeutics, Population Health, Occupational Health committees, and other such activities). Provides professionalguidance concerning unit/MTF policies and/or operating instructions.
• DUTY 4:
  Participates in local disaster training exercises as directed by the Chief of the Medical Staff (SGH) or MTFCommander; responds to real-world disaster situations. Participates in local disaster training exercises to maintainpreparedness levels. Responds to assigned MTF in real-world disaster to facilitate primary care delivery in the face ofan emergent local situation. Coordinates with local, state, and county medical emergency personnel to executeprimary care delivery in accordance with the assigned facility's Medical Contingency Response Plan (MCRP).

Performs other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement for Physician :

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Family Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.

NOTE: If selected, a salary quote will not be provided to you at the time of the initial job offer. The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved. Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade, and locati on.
