Academic Medical Director- Medicine -Pediatrics Opportunity
Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’ premier healthcare provider and home to the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School – Baystate, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Medicine-Pediatrics or Family Medicine Physician leader to join us as the Medical Director at Mason Square Neighborhood Community Health Center in Springfield, MA. This is one of three Community Health Centers in the Division of General Medicine and Community Health; all three are primary ambulatory sites for our residents, medical students, and other trainees.
The Medical Director will serve a community in need by improving care delivery, addressing social inequities and injustice, raising quality, championing innovation, being a sponsor and mentor, and meeting the academic mission of research and education through:
• Leading a team of 10 physicians, 9 advanced practitioners, and 32 Medicine-Pediatrics residents in providing compassionate and comprehensive community-based ambulatory care for a diverse patient population with complex needs
• Representing and advocating for diversity and equity and promoting community engagement and involvement
• Nurturing educational innovation and growth concordant with the mission of the Community Health Center, Division, Department, and Organization
• Supporting and driving research endeavors aligned with the Division and Department, particularly community-engaged research serving traditionally underserved populations and/or addressing social determinants of health
• Contributing substantively in Divisional, Departmental, and organizational goal setting and strategies
• Engaging in community health leadership, operations and performance, Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO) committees, and staff meetings
• Working closely with the Division Chief on budgetary and financial needs
Our Community Health Centers focus on team-based care and are a major site for our Medicaid ACO. We have
on-site, full-service laboratory and pharmacy, an integrated multidisciplinary Behavioral Health team, strong support from specialists at Baystate Medical Center, as well as on-site services including HIV and Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Cardiology, and others. Baystate Health’s Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Science supports our clinical and community-based research. We work closely with the Medical School’s Population Urban and Community Health (PURCH) program. The Department of Medicine offers a leadership development program.

Qualifications: Candidates must be board certified by the American Board of Internal-Medicine & Pediatrics or Family Medicine. Demonstrable record of collaboration, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, academic productivity, enthusiasm for medical education and mentoring faculty and ability to engage a broad base of potential stakeholders to work towards a shared vision.
