As we expand our ophthalmology services across Northwell Health, we are seeking a new Chair of Ophthalmology at Staten Island University Hospital. This exciting position offers the opportunity to lead and develop the department in conjunction with Northwell and SIUH leadership.


  • Completed an ACGME-accredited residency in ophthalmology and be board certified.
  • Outstanding administrative, communication and management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with medical and ophthalmology staff, hospital administrative leadership, and residents.
  • Previous division, department, or residency program leadership.
  • Must possess recent experience in generally accepted and currently used methods and techniques.

Northwell Health Department of Ophthalmology:

The Department of Ophthalmology brings together the resources of Northwell Health and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell to provide state-of-the-art care while contributing to advances in technology, education and research. Our department consists of 45 full time faculty, 19 Optometrists, and over 300 community based comprehensive and specialty ophthalmologists. Our graduate medical education programs are dedicated to 17 ophthalmology residents and 7 fellows, adding depth and scope to our department.  

Locally, SIUH offers care for a wide range of ophthalmologic conditions for adult and pediatric patients. Our experienced OR teams have extensive training in ophthalmic surgery and support the delivery of high quality, efficient care.  In addition, we host residents who work closely with our attendings in the ophthalmology clinic as well as in surgery. Our ophthalmology department continuously collaborates with other service lines and SIUH leadership to meet the patient’s needs through their entire journey.  Our newly designed eye procedure rooms opened in 2023 and offer all the capabilities of a traditional operating room. Recently we added femtosecond laser cataract surgery to enhance our patient care offerings.
