Medical Director, Pediatric Heart Transplantation at Northwell Health;

Pediatric Heart Transplant APN and Pediatric VAD Coordinator

The Department of Pediatrics at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, Northwell Health, is building a Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Assist program. We have already obtained UNOS certification, have submitted our CON, and have an experienced VAD/transplant surgeon, Dr. Timothy Martens, and senior transplant cardiologist, Dr. Jeffrey Gossett, in place.

We are now seeking a Medical Director, for this program who is BE/BC in Pediatric Cardiology and meets UNOS criteria for Pediatric Heart Transplantation to lead the initiation of these programs. Candidates of any tenure will be considered, and they will be supported by our award-winning and collegial team of physicians at the Cohen Children’s Heart Center. The role will also offer the opportunity for research, advocacy, and education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Faculty appointment will be with the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and clinical rank will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will oversee the growth and development of these programs and will have strong support and partnership from our Division Director who has extensive transplant and program building experience.

In addition to the Physician role, we are recruiting an experienced Heart Transplant Advanced Practice Nurse and a Pediatric VAD Coordinator. The Medical Director will be actively engaged in building and selecting their team. These individuals will partner with the medical leadership to assure the smooth initiation of these programs and education of the inpatient and outpatient teams.

The Cohen Children’s Heart Center sits across the Department of Pediatrics of Northwell Health. Under the leadership of the System Chiefs of Pediatric Cardiology, Dr. Jeffrey Gossett, and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr. David B. Meyer, the Heart Center functions as a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team focused on clinical and academic excellence. The Heart Center is rapidly growing with dramatic increase in our clinical programs over the last few years. The institution performs more than 250 cardiac surgical procedures annually with more than 30 cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons helping to assure outstanding outcomes, and with a strong commitment to further growth including our soon to be constructed dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit. With one of the highest volume programs in New York State, the team at the Cohen Children’s Heart Center has a long reputation of providing exceptional cardiovascular care throughout the region. Team members and their families live throughout the entire New York Metro area including on Long Island, Westchester and in Manhattan. 

Cohen Children’s Medical Center opened in 1983 as the New York metropolitan area’s only hospital designed exclusively for children. Today, it is the largest pediatric teaching hospital in the region, with over 750,000 visits annually and serving 1.8 million children in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Salary Disclosure

Full-time clinical base compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $125K to $750K, which is impacted by various factors, including but not limited to physician specialty, level of experience, quality of care, academic accomplishments, patient experience and productivity. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
