Summary

Kaiser Permanente-Washington Permanente Medical Group is seeking a part-time (0.1 FTE) Assistant Medical Director, Care Chat to join our WPMG HQ team in Renton, Washington.

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Medical Director is accountable for communicating clear expectations, onboard/ mentor new hires, and promoting development on the individual clinicians and team level. The role involves hiring strong clinicians and building a collegial and well-run team with the purpose of providing care to our members. This role is also required to participate in the creation and implementation of practice strategies to optimize patient outcomes, perform chart reviews, and is responsible to share and promote KP initiatives with their teams including utilization management strategies.

The Assistant Medical Director must represent team concerns and provide organizational context / KP updates to their local team. Finally, the Assistant Medical Director is accountable to the Associate Medical Director for their work duties.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Team Building

o As agreed to with Associate Medical Director duties could include:

o Work closely with Recruiters vetting and hiring new associates. This involves careful reference checks, conducting interviews and assessing candidates for cultural fit.

o Coordinate credentialing, onboarding, and mentoring of new clinicians.

o Perform clinician reviews including new hire reviews at six months, Associate reviews annually and Shareholder reviews every two years upon agreement with Associate Medical Director of duties.

o Provide performance feedback including coaching, implementation of performance improvement plans (PIPs), and enlistment of HR involvement when indicated.

o Provides input into HP staff hiring and performance

· Promote clinician well-being and monitor for / act upon signs of burn-out

· Lead team meetings.

· Participate in the development of strategies to enhance pride and performance in the medical group.

Operational Excellence &

Quality

o As agreed to with Associate Medical Director duties could include:

o Create or oversee the team schedule; schedules should be patient-centered, and the processing of clinician schedule requests should be fair and transparent.

o Work with HR and Payroll to ensure clinicians’ FTE, compensation & benefits and leave requests are correct.

o Exemplify and promote the importance of being a good steward of resources; lead the team in utilization management work.

o Actively participates with clinic leadership teams to maintain clinical standards and practice in accordance with all local, state and federal requirements.

o Promote use of evidence-based medicine and best practice guidelines.

o Review Unusual Occurrence Reports (UORs) / Patent Safety Alerts (PSAs) including giving feedback on opportunities for hospital-based system and individual physician improvements.

Financial Stewardship

· Work with other leaders to implement strategies that reduce overall costs, improve local efficiency and productivity.
