Senior Clinical Basic and/or Translational Scientist in Cancer Immunobiology/Immunotherapy

The Department of Medicine and the Cancer Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) announces an opportunity for a senior clinical basic or translational scientist in cancer immunobiology/immunotherapy with an academic appointment of Associate Professor or Professor of Medicine. The candidate will be responsible for crafting the overall vision of the Cancer Immunotherapy Program including the direction of the basic science effort in cancer immunobiology, translational efforts linking discovery to the development of novel therapies, identification of biomarkers correlating with therapeutic response and resistance, elucidating factors responsible for treatment associated toxicity, and fostering the growth of the clinical trials program. The candidate will work in close collaboration with the Cancer Center Director as well as the Department Chair of Medicine to realize these goals including the establishment of a robust research program under their own leadership, strategic recruitments and fostering the career development and growth of early and mid-career investigators at the center. The candidate will help to propel the cell therapy program including the Schwartz Center for Cellular Therapy as an engine for novel therapeutics, foster academic and industry wide collaborations, and work with clinical and translational leaders in the medical center to further grow the clinical trials program in cancer immunotherapy.

The candidate will be a nationally recognized leader in the field of basic and/or translational science in the field of cancer immunotherapy meeting criteria for appointment as Professor or Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Areas of expertise may include interrogating the immune microenvironment and immunoregulatory pathways, novel cellular, antibody or drug-based therapeutics, and defining pathways of resistance and toxicity. The candidate should have demonstrated prominence in the field as shown by a track record of independent funding potentially including R01 level grants, leadership of consortium projects in the field, experience with program level leadership in immunotherapy and translational science, mentorship of early career investigators. The successful candidate must have demonstrated scholarly activities with achievements in basic or clinical research and possess potential for program development, and teaching and mentorship abilities.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the tertiary care hospital of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is a member of the Dana-Farber Harvard Cancer Center, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. Salary and benefits will be competitive with other institutions.

Applicants should have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree. The candidate will be put forward for Professor or Associate Professor level appointment at Harvard Medical School.
