The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Medical Director to lead the Department’s research activities. S/he will be responsible for providing the vision, strategic direction, and environment to grow and sustain the expansion of research. This position will interact and collaborate with multiple clinical and university departments. The long-term vision is for growth within the Department of Emergency Medicine that will lead to continued long-term research sustainability.

Overall Responsibilities:

  1. Growth and vitality of emergency care research in the department, including, but not limited to, clinical research, health services, and medical education. To maintain and further develop the research capacity and programs of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
  2. Integrating research and clinical contexts for the optimization of academic EM.
  3. Further developing training materials and programs to support the scholar role for residents and clinician teachers.
  4. Building capacity partnerships, and strong research networks.
  5. Assist faculty in optimizing their career trajectories in terms of success in funding competitions, recognized awards, timely career promotion. Operationalize into practice through knowledge translation.
  6. To improve the scientific basis for high quality emergency care delivery.
  7. To advance the national reputation of the Department by means of research excellence through increased funded clinical research, increased publications, and strong participation in clinical studies.
  8. A particular focus on mentorship and development of learners and faculty from under-represented groups in medicine a priority.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated scholarly activity through grants, peer reviewed publication, leadership.
  • 3-5 Years’ experience in an academic EMD setting, with preference given to experience in research collaboration, grant submission, methodology, human subjects protection, statistical analysis, and manuscript writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others, collaborate, and build relationships across all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent written verbal, and interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Compensation & Benefits:

The compensation range listed is for starting base compensation only and is adjusted based upon years of experience and/or faculty rank: $180,000 - $247,000. This amount does not include variable compensation or extra productivity and is subject to the individual department compensation plans. More information on compensation is discussed with the departments during the recruitment process.
