Cleveland Clinic, a large global academic healthcare system, announces its search for the Hepatology Section Head, a flagship program in our health system located in Northeast Ohio.

The Hepatology Section is one of seven within the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. The Department, currently ranked # 3 in the country by US News and World Reports, resides within the Digestive Disease & Surgery Institute (DDSI). The DDSI mission is to be the international leader in medical and surgical treatment of digestive and surgical disease by providing the highest quality clinical care, research and education. DDSI is committed to gender, racial and cultural diversity in all aspects, especially in its leadership. Across Northeast Ohio, the Department provides care at eight Cleveland Clinic hospitals and 25 outpatient locations. Annual volume data for the Department consists of approximately 95,000 outpatient clinic visits and 81,000 inpatient and outpatient endoscopy procedures.

The Hepatology Section is comprised of 14 staff physicians, a PhD clinical research scientist and 15 advanced practice providers. Several have NIH grants and there are a growing number of pharmaceutical trials in place. Section members play an active role in the largest-volume liver transplant program in the country. The Section conducts dedicated multidisciplinary alcohol-liver, NAFLD, and a liver tumor clinics. The Section has a Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program with 2-3 fellows each year.

The Department seeks a compassionate physician servant-leader with excellent interpersonal skills, and a resume demonstrating excellence in patient care, research, and program development who will help guide the Section in overall growth and in its pivot towards enhancement of our research mission. The Section Head will report to the Chair of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

Duties and responsibilities of the Section Head will be to oversee continued growth of the Section, provide leadership in further development of clinical and translational hepatology research, foster continued collaboration with the liver transplant program, to serve as mentor for professional development of hepatology staff and to expand collaboration with Cleveland Clinic hepatology units in Florida, London, and Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, and be able to negotiate and lead the development of hepatology care throughout Northeast Ohio. The Section Head should be eligible for academic appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at the rank of Clinical Associate- or Full Professor of Medicine.
