Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, Dr. Michael Dake, with the advice and counsel of a Search Committee, invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.  

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, the Dean will be a key member of the health sciences leadership team; as such, the Dean will assume oversight for a complex set of responsibilities and have an opportunity for major impact. Given the importance of the role, The University of Arizona seeks an individual with broad understanding of national health policies, and their implications on future challenges and opportunities for academic medicine.

The University of Arizona seeks individuals with a distinguished record in externally funded clinical/translational or basic science research; substantial successful administrative leadership experience, particularly in a school of medicine and/or academic medical center; a strong commitment to medical and graduate education; demonstrated achievement in the recruitment of a diverse faculty; outstanding communication skills; a commitment to shared governance, combined with the ability to act decisively and to delegate authority to senior leadership at College of Medicine – Phoenix; and a proven record of philanthropic fund raising and community partnerships.

The new Dean will be expected to prioritize diversity and build synergies across the health sciences colleges and centers at the university to create opportunities for inter-professional research, education, training, and patient care excellence. Further, the University seeks individuals who will embrace and strengthen the College’s clinical partners.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • MD, MD/PhD, and DO candidates will be considered.
  • Academic credentials to support the rank of Full Professor in an appropriate academic Department
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of progressively complex administrative experience in academic medical center/medical school setting (undergraduate medical education and graduate training).
  • Board certified and/or participating in maintenance of certification for specialty as applicable
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical license in Arizona as applicable
  • National recognition as evidenced by involvement in clinical, academic and/or educational societies at the national level with a track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Record of clinical, research, and/or educational program development and leadership
  • Record of recruitment and development of diverse faculty, trainees, and students
  • Experience and understanding of budgets and resource management
