Overview

New York Oncology Hematology is seeking a full-time Hematologist Oncologist to serve as Medical Director for our well-established practice in the Capital District. Although a private practice, we are the sole hematology/oncology care providers at Albany Medical Center, the largest tertiary care/ academic center in Eastern Upstate New York. As a part of our association, our providers have academic appointments and are proud teachers of medical students and residents. We have a robust research department with phase 1-3 trials available (NRG access). Most importantly, we are an organization that prides itself on the exceptional quality of our providers and the care they deliver to thousands of patients yearly.

Candidates interested in this opportunity should possess the following: Board Certification in Hematology or Oncology; DEA licensure; and State of New York licensure. Candidates should be interested in providing both oncological and hematological care. Minimum 5 years' experience.

This position offers 4 days administrative time to focus on the directorship. 1 day will be allocated for clinic time.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of clinical care provided by NYOH and ensure that patients receive the highest quality of clinical and patient focused care treatment. As well as oversight of the delivery and organization of clinical care across all modalities.
  • Assist the Board to develop policies to improve the internal and external clinical activities of the practice.
  • Lead the development of new clinical programs, the achievement of accreditations and innovations to continue to provide the highest level of care.
  • Assist the Executive administrative team in the application of policy changes made to improve the quality of care and provide recommendations to leadership on departmental issues.
  • Provide clinical background and support to practice changing directives in attempts to provide a greater level of understanding to both clinical and operational administrative teams.
  • Increase the practice's administration's ability to have direct access to a clinician as new programs and directives are developed and provide feedback to improve implementation.
  • Implement changes to improve the workplace and quality of life for providers and employees practice staff.
  • Work closely with providers, nurses, and ancillary staff to maintain an excellent level of care and improve operations. Redundant as stated in a different way above, would recommend removing.
  • Assist the practice president in the recruitment and hiring of new providers.
  • Oversee peer review and quality of provider care.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and application of all disciplinary actions for Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers.

The practice captures 75% of our area's new cancer patient volume and has a current growth of 3-4% annually. We have a large referral base that extends from the Canadian border- western Vermont and Massachusetts to the Southern Tier. Three of our centers have linacs (Varian True Beam with OSMS and Identify), and we provide full radiation services. Upstate New York is an incredibly beautiful place to live, with access to the Adirondacks and Catskill Mountains for outdoor enthusiasts and is only 3 hours from New York City and Boston.
