Job Details:

Job Summary:

We are seeking to employ a Medical Director to plan and coordinate psychiatric care and other multidisciplinary patient care services provided by the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY (WMC). The incumbent will be a Psychiatrist supervised by the Section Chief of Outpatient Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry. WMC's ACT Team delivers comprehensive clinical and support services to adult individuals living in the County of Westchester who are diagnosed with a Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and whose needs have not been well met by more traditional service delivery approaches. The program is grounded in a recovery-oriented practice and provides an integrated set of evidence-based treatment, rehabilitation, case management, and support services delivered by a mobile, multidisciplinary behavioral health treatment team. ACT individuals often have a treatment history that has been characterized by frequent use of psychiatric hospitalization and emergency rooms, involvement with the criminal justice system, alcohol/substance use, homelessness, and lack of engagement in traditional site-based services. They are a small subset of the SMI population and require the highest level of services and frequent team contacts, and a core ACT principle is that these services are delivered in person and in the community. Individuals are referred to WMC's ACT Team through a Single Point of Access (SPOA) process administered by the County of Westchester, and such referrals may include individuals under a court order for Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT).

In addition to the Medical Director, the ACT Team also includes an RN, wellness, family, substance abuse and vocational specialists, and an administrator. The Medical Director has overall clinical responsibility for monitoring treatment and staff delivery of clinical services for ACT individuals, and provides both psychiatric and medical assessment, along with treatment, as well as clinical supervision, education, and training to team members. The incumbent will provide psychopharmacology services related to the development, maintenance, and supervision of medications for psychiatric and medical purposes, including medication assisted treatment (MAT), clozapine and long-acting injectable medications. In addition to duties as Medical Director, the incumbent may also be responsible, as scheduled and assigned, to provide traditional office-based psychiatric care to the general population of patients seeking treatment in WMC's mental health clinic in Valhalla, and to provide consultation and liaison psychiatry services to medical services in the acute care hospital. The Medical Director may also supervise and teach residents, fellows and medical students assigned to the Outpatient Psychiatry section, and may provide services in-person or via telehealth as directed. WMC's ACT Team is available seven (7) days a week, 24/7 by direct phone including an after-hours on-call system.
Qualifications / Requirements:

Applicants must have completed training in General Psychiatry and must be board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry. Must possess or be fully eligible for a New York State medical license. The successful candidate should also have a track record of clinical accomplishments working with patients with serious and persistent mental illness, knowledge and skill working with substance use disorders, and an interest in advancing their knowledge and skills in general psychiatry.
