NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, located just 15 minutes from NYC, is an acute care teaching hospital academically affiliated with Weill-Cornell Medical College . Dedicated to providing high quality patient care to a diverse community, Lincoln Medical Center is a NYS designated Level I Trauma and Stroke Center and has Centers of Excellence in all medical specialties including its award - winning Cancer and Breast Centers.

Responsibilities:

  • An Audiologist specializes in diagnostic, habilitative and rehabilitative services related to the auditory system for both adults and children.
  • S/he will administer a wide variety of behavioral and electrophysiologic tests, which are designed to determine precisely the patients hearing level and determine the most likely site of damage to the auditory system.
  • S/he is able to describe the amount of social disability resulting from hearing loss and to predict the potential benefits from the use of a hearing aid, assistive listening device and/or special training.
  • S/he should be able to differentiate between organic and non-organic hearing disability, through evaluation of total response pattern and the use of acoustic tests.
  • S/he shall assist in the selection and use of suitable hearing aids and the development of listening habits and the use of visual cues. When a patient has a hearing loss that is medically/surgically correctable, the Audiologist will assist the physician by describing the extent and type of hearing loss and will conduct studies to determine the hearing improvement achieved following medical/surgical treatment.
  • S/he should be able to plan, direct, conduct and participate in training, speech reading and speech conservation.
  • S/he should be able to write reports on diagnostic findings, therapy used, and progress made.
  • The Audiologist if trained and qualified may do Auditory Brainstem Response Evaluation (ABR) and Electronystagmography Evaluation (ENG).
  • S/he must be able to interpret the results and be prepared to write a report on the diagnostic findings and recommendations for submission to the physician requesting the testing.
