Duke Family Medicine Residency Program seeks a full-time board certified physician to serve as a Program Director for its 6/6/6 Family Medicine Residency Program. The Program Director leads and directs the Family Medicine Residency Program and is accountable for all program outcomes, and oversees all aspects of the residency program, including:
  • Ensuring the continued accreditation of the residency program, overseeing recruitment, and selection of residents.
  • Providing mentorship, teaching, and administrative oversight to the residents while supporting scholarly productivity among residents and faculty.
  • Offering mentorship and career development to core faculty; reporting to the Duke Office of Graduate Medical Education, ACGME, and ABFM; maintaining and modifying the 36-month residency curriculum.
  • Maintaining collaborative relationships with affiliated institutions and training sites; overseeing resident assessment and progression (in partnership with the programs clinical competency committee); ensuring an inclusive, psychologically safe learning environment for all members; and contributing to the success of strategic missions of the department and institution.
  • Being a staunch advocate for the program and disciplines of family medicine and community health across the institution, regionally and nationally.

The Program Director will maintain an active clinical practice combined of seeing patients in the Duke Family Medicine outpatient family medicine clinic, leading Centering Pregnancy groups (the departments primary antenatal care program), and attending on the Duke Regional Hospital Newborn Nursery Service with additional options of adult inpatient and obstetrics desirable. The Program Director routinely precepts residents in outpatient family medicine clinic at the Duke Family Medicine Clinic and, through their own clinical practice, frequently supervises medical and physician assistant students in the Duke School of Medicine.

Duke Family Medicine Division is dedicated to improving the health of populations and communities in Durham and surrounding counties. As one of the first certified Patient Centered Medical Homes in the US, and one of the development sites for the early concepts, the Division houses the Duke Family Medicine Center, the Family Medicine Residency Program, the Primary Care Sports Medicine.
