The Department of Pediatrics in the Duke University School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding physician at the Associate Professor or Professor level to serve as Chief for the Division of Emergency Medicine. This is a wonderful opportunity to lead a group of outstanding faculty members in their mission of delivering the highest quality care to patients and their families at Duke Childrens Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department. Proven leadership and excellence in clinical care, education, scholarship, and administrative experience are required. Candidates must have a Doctorate of Medicine (or equivalent) and be board-certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM). Candidates must also have or be eligible for a North Carolina medical license.

Priorities for the Division Chief of Emergency Medicine include developing innovative patient programs, mentoring faculty, and enhancing academic programs. The division currently includes twelve faculty. Their academic interests include quality improvement, medical education, ultrasound, simulation, procedural sedation, informatics, and resuscitation. Education of learners at the resident and medical student levels is an integral and essential component of the divisions mission. All faculty excel at bedside teaching, and the division has been repeatedly honored with the Departments Teaching Award from the graduating pediatrics and medicine-pediatrics residents.

Faculty also work closely with emergency medicine (EM) faculty in the Division of Emergency Medicine which is currently a Division of the Department of Surgery. PEM faculty play a significant role in the training of EM residents in addition to teaching other learners who rotate through the Pediatric Emergency Department.
