Cleveland Clinics Center for Bioethics is seeking a Clinical Ethicist to join our dynamic team in Cleveland, Ohio. The Clinical Ethicist will have responsibilities that include specific ethics support for Cleveland Clinics Ethics Consultation Service with a focus on organ transplantation services.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence and enthusiasm for providing high quality clinical ethics consultation, education, and program building. The candidate should have a proven track record in both academic and clinical practice settings. This individual will be expected to work effectively and collegially with members of the public including patients and families, intra-professional clinical teams, leadership, and other personnel in support of the Cleveland Clinics mantra: Patients First.

This position reports to the Director of the Center for Bioethics. The successful candidate will be eligible for appointment in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and will have opportunity to engage in a robust Bioethics Community in Northeast Ohio and beyond.

Candidates for the position must have an advanced degree in Bioethics or related field, and have a minimum of 2 years of clinical ethics consultation experience in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a terminal professional degree (PhD, JD, MD/DO, or equivalent) in a bioethics related field with advanced training in Bioethics. Formal fellowship training in clinical ethics is strongly preferred.

Experience with, (1) working in clinical environments; (2) providing quality clinical ethics consultation with competencies at an advanced level; and (3) service on and effective support of the activities of transplant candidate evaluation and selection processes (4) A proven track record of academic achievement. Preference given to individuals with at least 2 years of experience in these areas with substantial volume of experience in performing ethics consultations.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Proficiency with distance learning/communication and related technology (e.g., for teleconferences, webinars).

Experience and excellence in education, mentoring trainees, and curriculum design.

Demonstrated relationship-centered collaboration and team-building skills.

Responsibilities:

Provide clinical ethics consultation on the general Ethics Consultation Service across the Northeast Ohio Cleveland Clinic Enterprise.

Evaluate solid organ transplant candidates and living donors when indicated by the respective Cleveland Clinic Transplant service both in person and using virtual visit technology.

Attend and participate in organ specific candidate selection committee meetings.

Provide timely and complete documentation of clinical ethics consultations.

Contribute to clinical ethics educational activities for clinicians and clinical trainees.

Contribute to evaluative and quality improvement initiatives and processes related to ethics consultation and educational efforts.

Act as a liaison with clinical staff to promote and enhance clinical ethics programs and services
