Maine Medical Center is seeing a Director of Surgical Programs, a key leadership position within Surgical Services responsible for all aspects of six surgical programs including strategic development, financial management, marketing, quality improvement, and operational efficiency. This position oversees management of the Bariatric and Trauma Programs and is directly responsible for the Orthopedic, Urology, General Surgery, and Colorectal Surgery programs.

The position applies business management expertise and a data driven approach to advance surgery related strategic goals across the institution. It has direct oversight responsibility for the various program staff as well as the data analytic and quality support staff of Surgical Services. It reports to the Vice President of Surgical Services and works closely with senior leadership in Patient Care Services, Operations, Finance, Planning/Marketing, and Maine Medical Partners. The position is responsible for the development and successful implementation of program strategic and annual implementation plans. The Director of Surgical Programs provides subject matter acumen in business and financial management as well as data collection and analysis.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education: Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business or related field required plus seven years of progressive management experience. Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and consultants.
  • License/Certification: N/A
  • Experience: Knowledge of healthcare systems, including but not limited to the organization and financing of healthcare, managed care systems, health policy, hospital information systems, and public health principles. Knowledge of the current healthcare environment including macro and local trends.
  • A high level of analytical skills necessary to measure and develop improvement strategies for process improvement, financial management and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a budget, prepare financial reports, and create business plans.
  • Established ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of management, ability to write papers, reports, and proposals for a variety of audiences and present publicly.
