Chief, Division of Oncology/Hematology
Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA

About Mount Auburn
Mount Auburn Hospital of Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts was founded in 1886 as the first hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are a dynamic hospital dedicated to delivering healthcare services to our communities in a personable, convenient and compassionate manner.

Mount Auburn Hospital is licensed for 217-beds and has a full range of ancillary services, including a state-of-the-art Radiation Oncology department, Interventional Radiology, Oncologic Surgery, Hoffman Breast Center for Breast Cancer Care, Wellness Programming, and several Oncology Multidisciplinary Programs for breast, GI, lung, and GU malignancies.

The Opportunity
As part of the clinically integrated BILH network, Mount Auburn is redefining Cancer Care and has an immediate opening for the combined role of Medical Director of the Cancer Institute and Division Chief of Hematology Oncology.

The Medical Director of the Cancer Institute is a key leadership role for Mount Auburn and the BILH network. She/he will serve as the programmatic and operational leader for the Hospital and will report to Chief Medical Officer. The Medical Director of the Cancer Institute is accountable for providing strategic leadership and direction for the Cancer Institute including directing, organizing, planning, staffing, and resource management. The ideal candidate will have a strong business acumen, experience in strategic planning and program development including the necessary skills to develop a robust clinical trials program. Working in a dyad relationship with the Executive Director of Oncology, the Medical Director of the Cancer Institute will be instrumental in building relationships across the network, while creating and sustaining a positive context for the cancer program.

As the Division Chief for Hematology/Oncology the candidate will be a practicing medical oncologist with operational oversight of the division. Our ideal candidate will have exceptional teaching skills and be eligible for a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School and the willingness to put in non-clinical hours to network, market and build the practice into a collaborative and cohesive group.

In addition, the candidate will oversee the Oncology Division at Cambridge Health Alliance-Oncology Care, and participate in the provision and coordination of clinical services at that site.

To start, we expect the position to be 70% clinical, 30% administrative but anticipate this would change as the Institute and Division grow.

Oncology/Hematology Division
The Oncology/Hematology Division’s clinical services is comprehensive, including a busy outpatient practice, an inpatient consult service and a comprehensive chemotherapy/infusion service. Staffing consists of 5 medical oncologists, 3 oncology Nurse Practitioners, a robust Genetics program along with a full complement of certified oncology nurses which support our patients in both the practice and infusion settings.

The Division, and the Division Chief, play a critical role in the education of medical students and residents at both sites. As part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, Mount Auburn Hospital participates in a comprehensive research program and has access to advanced oncologic services such as BMT and CAR-T.

Candidates should be Board certified in both Hematology and Oncology and must be eligible for a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School. Expertise in solid tumor malignancies, particularly breast, is preferred.
