The Geriatrician Teaching Faculty position at the Internal Medicine Center of Akron at Cleveland Clinic Akron General is an opportunity to practice high quality Geriatric Medicine in a large teaching hospital. The Geriatric Teaching Faculty provides primary coverage for the inpatient geriatric consultation service which benefits from a strong referral relationship with our surgical, medical and emergency medicine colleagues. Additionally, the Geriatrician Teaching Faculty serves as the Medical Director for the Long-Term Care Facility designated as the outpatient teaching site for our Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residency programs. The Geriatrician rounds three half-days per week at this location covering the skilled nursing patients. There is a team of advanced nurse practitioners who work with the Geriatrician Teaching Faculty to provide care to the other residents of the facility (long-term care & assisted living patients). The Geriatrician Teaching Faculty provides an important bridge allowing residents to grow and become practice-ready, ensuring their patients receive the highest quality of care. Overall responsibilities:
  • Faculty must maintain American Board of Internal Medicine certification and/or the American Board of Family Medicine as well as Board certification in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Work continuously to adhere to Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policy relevant to the running of the internal medicine residency and family medicine program as per ACGME guidelines.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the education of the programs residents.
  • Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating residents.


Required Qualifications:
  • State of Ohio provider license.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine and/or Family Medicine
  • Board certification, Board eligible in Geriatric Medicine
