Hartford HealthCare, the largest and most comprehensive healthcare system in Connecticut, has a new opportunity available for a Senior Clinical Ethicist based at Hartford Hospital, located Hartford, CT.

Highlights of this opportunity include:

  • A flexible work model; either full time or part time within ethics with the opportunity to continue practicing medicine or nursing
  • The opportunity to provide leadership in developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating a comprehensive bioethics program, including building and staffing an ethics consultation service with 24/7 coverage
  • The Center for Bioethics will have strong institutional support to create a fully integrated, collaborative approach to clinical and organizational ethics issues across our seven acute care hospitals and other entities
  • Overseeing the Ethics Consultation Service for Hartford Hospital, a 983-bed acute care teaching hospital, and serving as a resource for Hartford HealthCare's seven acute care hospitals across Connecticut.
  • Providing support for the Hartford Hospital's Ethics Committee and the Hartford HealthCare Ethics Council
  • Planning, monitor, and evaluate multidisciplinary educational programs related to clinical ethics including actualizing the objectives of the ACGME residency training and organizing Clinical Ethics Rounds on a routine basis
  • Collaborating with directors, chiefs, managers, consultants and clinical teams to address ethics issues in clinical practice by providing input and opinion regarding system-wide policies and procedures with moral/ethical relevance
  • Working collegially and productively with executive leadership, clinical management and legal counsel to identify, analyze, and resolve organizational ethics questions and issues that arise
  • Developing and maintaining a collaborative relationship with the University of Connecticut and those schools engaged in ethics/moral philosophy learning, e.g., Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Social Work as well as collaborate with CT Hospital Association's Ethics Chairperson Group
  • Conducting independent and collaborative ethics research and scholarship to maintain professional personal growth as well as growth of other professionals

Qualifications

Job Requirements:
  • MD, DO, PhD, Masters, or Nursing Degree is required
  • Certification as a Health Care Ethics Consultant (HEC-C) is highly desirable
  • Experience conducting independent clinical ethics consultations in a tertiary, or community hospital setting is required
  • 5+ years of clinical ethics experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in directing a bioethics program strongly preferred
