The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, based in Miami, Florida, invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine is rich in history. First led by Dr. Lynn P. Carmichael, MD, who is considered one of the founders of the discipline of family medicine, the Department went on to establish the first family residency program offered in the United States, currently with 24 residents and an outstanding fellowship program in sports medicine. The Department has 15 faculty providing comprehensive treatment and prevention services at ten practice sites and urgent care centers throughout Miami-Dade County. In addition to their outpatient practice clinics, the Department provides services for the 1,550 beds at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Clinical revenues for the Department are approximately $14 million. The Department is actively engaged in research projects funded by grants from HRSA and the Department of Defense, totaling $2.7M.

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine, Henri R. Ford, MD, MHA, the Chair will oversee clinical activities, with responsibility for their expansion and success in the marketplace and for achieving the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective care. The Chair will also oversee the residency programs, the sports medicine fellowship, an active undergraduate educational program, and the growth of the research/scholarly operations.

The ideal candidate will have a current academic rank of at least Associate Professor of Family Medicine along with a distinguished record of teaching, clinical care, educator, and investigator, with experience in leading programs and projects, and an appetite for life-long learning in an academic setting as well as demonstrated success as a leader of a Department or Division of Family Medicine. Candidates must be an MD or MD/PhD, be board certified in Family Medicine, and eligible for licensure in Florida.
