Geisinger, one of the premier tertiary medical systems on the east coast, serving the northeast and central Pennsylvania regions, is recruiting an OB Laborists/Hospitalist to join the team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical (GWV) Center, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Enjoy working a very flexible schedule. while still being a full time employee. The Medical director for GWV L&D will provide oversight of providers delivering Obstetrics care at GWV. The director will work closely with unit nursing leadership, physicians, nurse midwives, women’s health and hospital leadership to assure that care is delivered in a professional, collaborative manner while following system standards for care and quality.

Job Duties

The ideal candidate will be a more seasoned candidate currently practicing obstetrics, great team player, experience working with midwives and enjoys co-managing with them. Opportunities exist for working with both medical students and residents. In this role you will focus on giving inpatient care to pregnant women, managing labor and delivery on both an emergency and routine basis. GWV has roughly 1900 deliveries per year, and GCMC close to 500 in year 1 of being open.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Partners closely and meets regularly with L&D operations manager to form a leadership dyad that works to strengthen team-based care and team dynamics.
  • Works with the quality and safety team to assure implementation of guidelines and policies.
  • Assures compliance with unit- based processes, such as sign out, fetal monitoring strip rounds, etc.
  • Partners with nursing to troubleshoot day to day operational or access issues
  • Fosters and maintains a culture of professionalism and collaboration with nursing, other providers, and staff.
  • Participates/ leads meetings and committees as appropriate to position
  • Provides reports at pertinent meetings: NE provider meetings, quality meetings, etc.

Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology

NRP and Fetal Heart Tracing certification


Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required)
