In partnership with the JPS Health Network, Acclaim providers are dedicated to providing a full continuum of behavioral health services, including inpatient services at Trinity Springs Pavilion, emergency behavioral health services at the Psychiatric Emergency Center, psychiatric consultations at JPS, and outpatient services (including medication management and PHP/IOP) at six JPS outpatient clinics.

The Vice Chair of Outpatient Services is responsible for administrative and clinical activities occurring within the outpatient setting. The Vice Chair is accountable for outpatient provider performance, including continuous productivity and performance improvement and resolving any identified problems, and regulatory compliance for their related clinical areas. The Vice Chair collaborates with the Chair, other Vice Chairs, Department Administrator and the organizational senior management team to accomplish these responsibilities.

Major Responsibilities

  • Oversight of Outpatient provider productivity and other clinical and teaching activities
  • Lead strategy discussions to improve and develop outpatient clinical services
  • Work with Executive Teams to ensure effective outpatient clinical resource utilization
  • Maintain patient and provider safety and compliance with relevant legal, quality, and regulatory standards as well as network and department policies and procedures

In addition to providing great care, JPS is also an urban teaching hospital with a long history of training physicians and medical students. The Department of Psychiatry partners with medical education and sponsors a residency program for specialization in psychiatry as well as clinical rotations for medical students and internships for physician assistant and nurse practitioner students. We are affiliated with the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Texas Christian University Medical School.

Specific Responsibilities

Regulatory & Quality oversight and improvement

  • Recommend and monitor quality indicators and targets
  • Support the code of conduct and ensure a high level of ethical conduct
  • Create quality improvement/action plans when opportunities are identified
  • Develop and monitor provider performance improvement plans
  • Submit reports as requested by the Chair, including but not limited to:
    • findings of evaluation of patient care and monitoring activities and any resulting actions
    • recommendations for maintaining and improving quality of care provided in the department and the hospital; and
    • other reports as requested
  • Round on outpatient providers regularly
  • Promote principles for service excellence including communication related to the network’s patient experience efforts
  • Enforce the bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies of the organized medical staff and all JPS and Acclaim Physician Group policies and procedures
  • Ensure the outpatient division continuously updates and improves its policies, procedures, documents, practices, and clinical activities for compliance with current legal and regulatory requirements

  • Provide leadership in strengthening and enhancing the division’s culture so that it successfully incorporates, at a minimum, the following elements:
  • Commitment to excellence and a high degree of collegiality
  • Mutual accountability of providers to each other for the quality of care they provide and respect for appropriate provider independence
  • Commitment to participate in department and division activities

Leadership Development

  • Aid in recruiting, supporting, and mentoring future provider leaders for the division
  • Ensure appropriate reward and recognition are provided to division providers

Collaborative Efforts

  • Works collaboratively with organizational leadership to ensure legal and regulatory compliance for the Outpatient Division
  • Assess and recommend resources needed for patient care, treatment, and services not provided by the department or the organization
  • Participate in integrated care delivery across the organization required for continuity of care
  • Coordinate interdepartmental and intradepartmental services required for continuity of care
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of care, treatment, and services for the Outpatient Division
  • Continually asses and improve the quality of care, treatment, and services including patient experience
  • Orient and continually educate all providers in Outpatient Division
  • Meet regularly and collaborate with the Outpatient operations, nursing, and social work leaders to ensure smooth clinic operations and appropriate scheduling templates for providers
  • Communicate and represent the opinion, policies, concerns, needs and grievances to the Chair

Lead Change

Provide strong, effective leadership in helping individual practitioners and associates within the Clinical Activities, the hospital, and the system prepare for, and succeed in the face of, evolving changes in the hospital, the system and the broader healthcare environment. These changes include, but are not limited to, the areas of evidence based medicine, patient safety, patient satisfaction, pay for performance, the electronic medical record, and cost effectiveness. 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited school of medicine
  • Residency and/or Fellowship training in Psychiatry
  • 3-5 Years of leadership experience in an outpatient or hospital setting

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Texas
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry
  • Unrestricted DEA certification
