Riverside University Health System Medical Center (RUHSMC) in Riverside County, California, a designated and American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma verified Level-1 Trauma Center, is actively recruiting a Trauma Medical Director.

The hospital is a safety net facility in Southern California, with a population of 2 million in the county. The trauma program cares for 3,600 trauma admissions yearly, performs 1,500 emergency general surgery cases, and provides high-level complex care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

The Division of Acute Care Surgery has the only Accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program in the Inland Empire. RUHSMC also has its own residency programs in surgery, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, family medicine, and radiology.

It serves as an affiliated teaching institution to Loma Linda University School of Medicine and to the University of California Riverside School of Medicine. There are ample opportunities for research in our Comparative Effectiveness and Clinical Outcomes Research Center – CECORC; a research center with a strong commitment to the dissemination of research throughout all departments of the hospital. CECORC is fully staffed with robust biostatistical support and infrastructure for Health Services Research.

Requirements – The ideal candidate would be an acute care/trauma surgeon with a minimum of 10 years practicing trauma and acute care surgery and previous experience as Trauma Medical Director or Associate Director of a verified Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center. An MD or DO degree, American Board of Surgery certification in surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care are required. A California medical license is required, but accommodations will be considered for qualified candidates pending relocation and licensure. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience.

A strong track record in education or research is preferred in addition to demonstrated ability in providing excellent patient care and strong leadership skills.

This is not a J-1 opportunity.
