Position Mission
Northwell Health’s Department of Cardiology is seeking a Chair of Cardiology for Peconic Bay Medical Center. The Kanas Regional Heart Center at Peconic Bay Medical Center is now the East End’s home for world-class cardiac care. Our advanced-technology Cardiac Cath Lab has been providing life-saving interventional cardiology services since 2017. As Chair, you will continue to expand and our range of cardiology services for the patients we seek to serve in our community.

As a leader, the Chair will provide senior oversight of hospital-based services at Peconic Bay Medical center. You will work collaboratively with hospital and health system leaders to meet and exceed the departments organizational, clinical, operational and financial goals. Responsibilities include clinician recruitment, education, supervision, strategic development, and process improvement initiatives.

As an innovator, you will identify and develop new clinical programs consistent with market opportunity, patient need and financial feasibility; ensure continued strong relationships with staff in the Cardiology community; and represent and meet their needs in an effective manner. You will provide leadership in meeting patient and employee satisfaction goals and service excellence initiatives.

As an educator, you will develop educational programs to meet quality of care goals. The Chair will educate personnel and monitor the Department’s ability to meet Northwell standards in quality. Collaboration with medical school leadership on the design and implementation of educational curriculums is key to training the next generation of physicians at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

At Peconic Bay Medical Center, we boast The East End’s first program to offer real-time telemetry-monitored in-patient and out-patient therapy. We are serviced by the East End’s largest staff of Advanced Cardiac Life Support-certified physical therapists and nurses.

This is also coupled with our outstanding facilities. At the Ultramodern Cary Grossman Rehabilitation Center, 5-Star-Rated Peconic Bay Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and Peconic Bay Out-Patient Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Center, we are raising the bar for Cardiology care.

Nationally-Recognized Research Institute with State-of-the-Art Laboratories
The Feinstein Institute is composed of more than 1,500 clinicians, scientists and staff who work in laboratories and clinical research programs in collaboration with clinicians and patients throughout the many facilities of Northwell Health. Every year, more than 15,000 patients and volunteers participate in over 2,000 research studies. Our state-of-the-art laboratories provide the infrastructure needed to conduct groundbreaking, disease-oriented research. It also houses the largest genotyping facility in the state of New York. The Feinstein Institute ranks in the top 6th percentile of all National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants awarded to research centers. The Feinstein Institute has produced more than 200 patents in 80 distinct technologies and has generated a dozen successful biotech start-ups.

Innovative Research Partnership with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) 
Northwell Health has a strategic affiliation with CSHL to align CSHL's world-class research with Northwell Health’s growing network of clinical services. Founded in 1890, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has shaped contemporary biomedical research and education. With support from Northwell Health since 1987, researchers have used a focused, multi-disciplinary approach to break new ground and develop innovative, advanced technologies. Home to eight Nobel Prize winners, the private, not-for-profit Laboratory employs 1,100 people including 600 scientists, students and technicians.

A Medical School Seeking to Redefine Medical Education 
Established in 2008, The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell was founded by two equal partners: Hofstra University and Northwell Health. The School of Medicine is built upon the strong clinical and graduate medical education programs of Northwell, as well as the robust research and academic programs of both Hofstra and Northwell’s Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. Currently, The Zucker School of Medicine ranks among top medical schools nationwide for primary care (2018 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools). Candidate Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications and experience:

Education and Experience

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited College of Medicine
  • Candidate must have completion of a Cardiovascular Disease fellowship
  • Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a physician in the State of New York
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience, as either Director/Vice Chair/Chief


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish credibility quickly, build rapport, and easily interact with clinical and administrative leadership, as well as physicians and staff throughout Northwell Health.
  • Proven ability to cultivate strong relationships with various stakeholders and create an environment that fosters collaboration and trust.
  • Ability to exert influence and drive outcomes among individuals with whom you do not have formal authority or reporting relationship.
  • Exceptional presentation skills and a high degree of poise when interacting with internal and external senior leaders.
  • Business acumen to understand Northwell Health’s operating environment, including competition and trends that could influence the organization’s success and the ability to measure the impact of decisions.
  • Demonstrated track record of building relationships with physicians to increase integration and grow market share.

Responsibilities and First-Year Aspirations
The newly appointed Medical Director will be expected to achieve the following goals in the first twelve months of his or her tenure:

  • Earn the trust and confidence of the regional players and hospital leaders, administrators at each ambulatory location, physicians and staff throughout Northwell Health.
  • Identify and build a team, including hospital and regional leaders for key surgical subspecialties.
  • Ensure high quality patient care through development and standardization of care processes and protocols, educational seminars, metrics, outcome measures and process improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in managing the department in a fiscally responsible manner.  Oversee the annual operating and departmental fund budgets to ensure annual targets are met/exceeded.  Ensure the productivity of physician faculty and support staff.
  • Actively participate in physician recruitment and the development of growth opportunities.
  • Develop interdisciplinary collaborations with the Feinstein Institute and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to expand and enhance research programs, with an emphasis on expanding access to clinical trials in year one.
  • Participate in research projects (basic/clinical/applied), and advise fellows and house staff.
