Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC), part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is seeking a visionary leader for the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM).

The GIM Chair has the opportunity to design a general internal medicine academic division of the future. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center remains one of a few academic multispecialty clinic model institutions in the country that is physician-led with a mission to provide cutting edge, high quality care, all centered around the patient and coordinated under one roof. Intersecting with the strengths of LHMC’s clinic model, the chair will facilitate innovations in primary care consistent with Lahey’s “patient-first” priority.

The division has 37 physicians, 17 Advanced Practice Providers, 4 PharmD, 20 RNs, and 40 medical assistants caring for 53,000 patients. In addition to 110,000 primary care visits per year, the division leads a Pre-Operative Clinic as well as an Acute Care Clinic. Members of the Division also serve as teaching attendings on the General Medicine Inpatient service. The division is involved in population health and preventive initiatives as well as chronic care for highly complex medical patients.

The primary care clinic is located at 67 South Bedford Street, adjacent to the medical center. This building features a radiology suite, phlebotomy station, and pharmacy to provide seamless care on site. This site houses the Medicine Residency Continuity Clinic as well as a pharmacotherapy practice with embedded PharmD colleagues. We are also part of a Beth Israel Lahey Health wide program of Collaborative Behavioral Medicine with embedded psychologists in the GIM practice. The Acute Care Clinic which operates 7 days a week and a Pre-Operative Center are both located at the medical center.

The new leader has the opportunity to expand the education and research portfolio of the division. Partnering with Lahey’s Comparative Effectiveness Research Institute, the Office of Academic Affairs, and LHMC leadership, the new leader will build a GIM research portfolio and be a critical partner to advance LHMC research through the creation of a new Institute for Healthcare Delivery Science. The incumbent will occupy a newly endowed chair with annual income to support education, patient care, and research.

The responsibilities of the Chair include the direction and administration of the professional, operational, education, and research programs of the Division. The Chair is responsible for provider recruitment and professional development, achievement of divisional quality, financial, and patient satisfaction goals, development of new strategic initiatives, effective management of resource allocation within the division, and optimization of divisional operations.
