Job Details

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, Northwell Health, is seeking a Pulmonary/Critical Care physician scientist/clinician interested in the intersection of clinical research, health care innovation, and pulmonary/critical care to participate in an innovative telemedicine/home care program. Our telemedicine program was initially developed as part of our response to COVID-19 and provides remote pulmonary medicine consultation in conjunction with a robust home care program that includes nursing, infusion services, and respiratory care. This very successful telemedicine program has served thousands of patients and will now be extended as a novel initiative to facilitate post-hospitalization care for various pulmonary disorders with the goal of improving transition of care to the ambulatory setting and reducing hospital readmissions. The program will also incorporate innovations in digital and mobile health technology.

As this innovative program has the potential to transform transition of care, of particular interest are fellowship trained pulmonary/critical care faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level who are aspiring to become an extramurally funded physician scientist at the intersection of health care innovation and pulmonary medicine. Academic resources include collaboration and potential appointment with the Northwell Institute of Health System Science, part of the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. The Institute of Health System Science is a multidisciplinary team of scientists and clinicians focused on developing new health care innovations and methodologies to improve health outcomes of individuals, organizations and communities. The new faculty member will also participate in other clinical activities of the Division including ambulatory and inpatient pulmonary/critical care medicine.

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Northwell Health has over 35 faculty members with Pulmonary/Critical Care and Sleep Medicine fellowship programs. The Division provides inpatient care at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center as well as at Northwell community hospitals. The Division has subspecialty programs in Lung Transplantation, Pulmonary Hypertension, Interstitial Lung Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, Interventional Pulmonology, Acute Lung Injury and ECMO, and Sleep Medicine. Faculty are appointed at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra-Northwell.

Northwell Health incorporates 23 hospitals and more than 750 outpatient locations throughout the Metro NY area and beyond, serving over 11 million people and is one of the largest and most diverse academic medical centers in the nation. In addition to renowned clinical facilities, Northwell faculty members enjoy access to the academic and research resources of the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. At Northwell Health, we are committed to the highest quality of clinical care, dedicated to improving lives through research, and strive for excellence at all times.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package and an academic appointment at the medical school. Physicians will be employed as members of Northwell Physician Partners, the seventh largest medical group in the country. Appointment at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra-Northwell at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor will be provided, commensurate with experience, training, academic portfolio, and teaching activities.
