Tenure-Track Investigator Position

Build your research program at the world’s largest biomedical research organization! The Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), located in Bethesda, MD, invites outstanding scientists to apply for a tenure-track position. The successful applicant will establish an independent research program at the NIH, which offers one of the largest and most active neuroscience communities in the world. The NIDCD DIR has an extraordinary group of researchers in auditory neuroscience working in a highly interactive and supportive research environment. Core facilities include research support for genomics, computational biology, biostatistics, advanced imaging, audiology, and mouse auditory and vestibular testing. Visit: https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/research/labs for more information.

We welcome applications from candidates with basic, clinical, and translational laboratory research interests in disorders affecting human communication in one or more of NIDCD’s mission areas of hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech and language. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop and direct an independent research program focused on problems relevant to the NIDCD mission. Preference will be given to candidates whose research or approaches complement those of our existing strong programs in hearing and balance, genetics, developmental neuroscience, cellular and molecular biology, and translational/clinical research. The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of scientists and clinicians at the forefront of research on communication disorders.

The NIDCD offers an exceptional working environment, including well-equipped research laboratories, the NIH Clinical Research Center, and numerous opportunities for collaboration. Startup funds, access to shared research facilities, and ongoing research support are competitive with premier academic institutions. In addition to a generous start-up allowance, this position includes an ongoing commitment of research space, laboratory resources, and positions for personnel and trainees.

Skills and Qualifications:

Each candidate must have a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent degree), post-doctoral research experience, and will have demonstrated the potential to become an independent investigator. The selected candidate is expected to build a dynamic and productive research group, mentor and train scientists, and make use of the excellent opportunities for collaborative, translational, and high-risk/high-reward science available at the NIH. Applicants should have an excellent publication record demonstrated through publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals in the relevant field(s). Applicants should have experience in mentoring and communicating their scientific research.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience and a full Civil Service package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, and a Thrift Savings Plan) is available. There are also programs at the NIH to provide parental leave, as well as opportunities for on-site childcare.

To Apply:

Please submit (i) a curriculum vitae including bibliography, (ii) up to three reprints of recent relevant publications, (iii) a statement of your commitment and the activities you have undertaken to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion, (iv) a statement of research interests, and (iv) an outline of your proposed research (maximum of 3 pages). Also, please arrange for three letters of reference to be sent electronically to: nidcddirsearch1@mail.nih.gov

Review of applications will begin on or about February 1, 2022, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
