In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan our teams provide care for over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with New York Medical College.

Responsibilities:

Purpose of P osition:

Advises families of the consequences and nature of an inherited disorder, the probability of transmitting it and options available in management and family planning regarding an inherited disorder.

Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Privacy and Security rules outlined in the HIPA
  • Adheres and conforms to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Provides information and support to pediatric, high risk OB, prenatal and cancer patients
  • Works as a member of healthcare team and acts as a genetic resource to physicians
  • Increases understanding of genetic conditions and diseases, discuss disease management options and explain the risks and benefits of testing
  • Provides support at high risk and pre-natal clinics offering prenatal diagnosis and pediatric care
  • Other duties as assigned by Associate Chief of Service


    • Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics from program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC)
  • Board certification from America Board of Genetic Counseling.

    • Proof of Covid - 19 vaccination required prior to hire
