Job Details

Bayhealth Medical Center, based in Dover DE, is seeking a dynamic leader in the field of Internal Medicine to join us in our efforts to develop a top-ranked Internal Medicine Residency program. Our first 13 residents arrived in July 2021. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated leader to have input and make an impact building a program from the ground up. We are looking for someone who would serve as an APD in the IM Program and would work to develop our Transitional Year Program, which will launch in 2024. Ideally the APD would serve as the Medical Director of the IM Continuity Clinic.

The Internal Medicine Clinic opened in June 2021 in Milford and has 12 exam rooms, as well as offices and conference rooms to accommodate the needs of the residents and faculty.

The Internal Medicine Medical Director will have responsibilities related to clinical services and the medical care offered at the clinic, patient access, patient safety, and clinic management, as well as ensuring residents are engaged and responsible for the quality of care they deliver. Other duties include, participating in new clinic development, preparing operating budgets, as well as leading the day-to-day operation and coordination of patient care services. The Medical Director will also maintain an active clinical practice at the clinic site.

Requires a MD/DO in primary care (board certified or board eligible) with at least 4 years of outpatient clinical experience. Desire to work clinically at least 50% when residents start, more before the practice begins to build patient panel. Prior work experience as a Medical Director and/or work experience in new practice set up strongly preferred.

Delaware is one of the fastest growing states in the US and as we grow we are in the process of developing GME programs (FM, IM, Surgery, EM and a Trasitional Year Program) to meet the future healthcare needs of our communities. February 2109 saw the opening of the new Sussex Campus; this 138 bed hospital replaced Milford Memorial Hospital. Bayhealth Medical Center is central and southern Delaware's largest healthcare system.

Bayhealth Medical Center is a fully integrated health care system consisting of two hospitals (Bayhealth Kent and Sussex campuses), a free-standing ED in Smyrna and numerous ambulatory and outpatient offices. Both hospitals are certified Primary Stroke Centers. There is 24/7 Hospitalist coverage at both hospitals, as well as Intensivists in the ICU's. Service are available in most specialties including Neurosurgery, Cardiac surgery, Interventional and Structural Cardiology. Kent has a Cardiac ICU, a Neuro ICU and a general ICU, Milford has a general ICU.

Delaware is consistently rated as one of the lowest cost of living states in which to either raise a family or retire. Located less than two hours from Washington DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia the central/southern Delaware area offers affordable living, history and charm. Easy access to both the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays provides limitless recreational opportunities and the Atlantic Ocean is less than a forty-five minute drive from Dover.
