The Cleveland Clinic, a distinguished academic healthcare system, announces its search for Chair of the Taussig Cancer Institute (TCI).

Taussig Cancer Institute (TCI) employs 178 physicians and over 80 advanced practice providers in 4 departments: Hematology and Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Medicine, and Translational Hematology and Oncology Research. There are approximately 885 non-physician caregivers. TCI provides cancer care at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, 12 family health centers, 4 regional hospitals, and is 1 of the 6 primary service lines within Cleveland Clinic Florida.

The Taussig Cancer Institute, ranked # 5 in the US News and World Report, recently moved to a new, state-of-the-art 280,000 sq. ft. outpatient facility in 2017 that promotes easily accessible, multi-disciplinary care and a compassionate, healing environment for patients. TCI currently has over 400 actively enrolling clinical trials with $26 million in annual research grants/endowments. A very large and well developed Palliative Medicine Program is part of the Hematology and Medical Oncology Department. TCI is fully integrated with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and the Hematology and Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology fellowship programs are of the most successful in the country.

The Taussig Cancer Institute is part of the NCI designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Chairman of the Taussig Cancer Institute serves the important role of being the Deputy Director of the NCI designated cancer center. The chair has access to extensive basic and translational research programs through Case Western Reserve University and through the Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. A unique aspect to the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center is the fact that we (Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals) serve over 60% of our catchment area, providing a unique population science research opportunity. TCI is one of the largest and most clinically active in the United States, with 22,000 new cancer patients of which 5,000 are new benign hematology consults annually.

Duties and responsibilities of the new Chair will be to provide leadership for the Institute which will include oversight of general operations, organization, philanthropy, fiduciary matters, quality and safety, recruitment, retention and mentoring of medical staff, administrators, educators and researchers. The Chair is responsible for the extremely important academic and research mission of the Institute.

The Institute Chair will be a physician leader in cancer treatment with impressive credentials who reports to the Cleveland Clinic Chief of Staff and has the ability and desire to implement and support the strategic mission of the Cleveland Clinic Health System. The ideal candidate will be a servant leader with a record of excellence in clinical support activities, education, and scholarship as well as laudable experience in leadership, administration, mentoring, and program development.

A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments is expected at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
