Overview

Serves as Staff Physician and team member of a collaborative health care team within a Defense Health Agency (DHA) military medical treatment facility (MTF). Incumbent is responsible for the delivery of addictions treatment services in a continuum of care that includes outpatient treatment, a partial hospitalization program and a residential treatment program, within a Military Treatment Facility (MTF). The general program direction is coordinated with the clinical chain of command. In addition, to ensuring a full continuum of behavioral health care for the beneficiaries, the incumbent will coordinate activities with other military addictions programs in the Market Region, including Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care (SUDCC) Program. The incumbent has full professional responsibility for all medical aspects of the addictions treatment services delivered under his or her supervision.

Responsibilities

As a Physician (Psychiatry) you will:

Direct Patient Care. Accepts new cases and consultations as assigned, and serves as consultant on the most difficult cases in the specialty. Conducts thorough bio-psycho-social assessments as appropriate for discipline, in accordance with community standards, and as allowed by hospital privileges. Orders appropriate lab tests, radiographic studies and consultations as clinically indicated. Participates in multi-disciplinary case conferences, peer review and performance improvement activities. Responds to requests for consultation in a timely manner. Establishes and cultivates professional relationships within and beyond the hospital to facilitate high-quality, safe patient care.

Supports graduate medical education and the educational training of other appropriate personnel, to include providing assigned trainees with an appropriate orientation, didactic instruction, modeling and supervision. Completes trainee evaluations in a timely fashion. Engages in and/or supports clinical research in an effort to improve the care and management of beneficiaries.

Provides technical supervision, i.e., serves as consultant to clinic physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and other clinical/ancillary staff. Serves as the performance rater and senior rater for subordinate staff personnel. Makes employee selections, approves leave, hears group grievances and employee complaints, reviews disciplinary cases and refers action with recommendations to the proper officials.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States .

Additional Requirement: 5 years of training to include your residency in Physician (Psychiatry) or equivalent experience.

American Society of Addiction Medicine or American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry certification is highly desired.
