Description

Stony Brook University is the premier academic medical center in Suffolk County, NY. The University Hospital offers the community state-of-the-art care including for patients presenting with acute psychiatric problems. Services include the only Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), Adult inpatient Unit, as well as a Child and Adolescent inpatient unit.

We are currently recruiting for the Director of the Adult Inpatient Unit. It is a 30-bed unit that is a core teaching rotation for medical students and residents. The Director will be tasked with providing the clinical, educational, and scholarly direction to the unit in addition to carrying a small case-load of patients. The Director will work with other disciplines on the unit as well as with CPEP and other service lines in the hospital to provide the optimal care to patients as well as design and implement quality improvement initiatives. The Director will obtain an academic rank at the School of Medicine in accordance with experience and prior work. The Director will routinely collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. The Director will be expected to recruit and retain physicians, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff at affiliated institutions.

Qualifications

Minimal Qualifications:

  • MD or DO.
  • Board-certified general adult psychiatrist.
  • Experience treating patients with psychosis, mood disorders and personality disorders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of experience in working in an adult inpatient psychiatric unit.

Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team.

Experience in teaching medical students and psychiatry residents.

Experience in practice-based improvements in care delivery.
