Description

The Brown University School of Public Health is seeking to hire an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor for a tenure-track faculty position focused on climate and health. The position will be available July 1, 2022. The faculty member hired to this position will engage in a combination of research, education, and other strategic activities including participating in Brown University’s Climate Solutions Initiative. The ideal candidate will strive to be a thought leader on public health solutions to address climate inaction and to mitigate adverse health consequences of the changing climate through education, rigorous research, and advocacy. The successful candidate will be expected to sustain and grow an externally funded research program relevant to climate and health. Areas of potential interest include: 1) studying the health impact(s) of climate policies at the regional, national, or global level; 2) examining, addressing, and responding to historical injustices and current racial/ethnic inequities in susceptibility to the adverse health consequences of climate change; 3) novel data-driven or epidemiologic methodologies to study climate change; and 4) developing and testing approaches to modify human behavior as it relates to reducing our carbon footprint. The successful candidate will also lead a new graduate course related to climate and health. The School of Public Health is home to four robust academic departments, and the home department of the successful candidate will depend on the area of sub-study and background.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements: Applicants must possess a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent) in a public health field and evidence of strong methodologic training. Individuals from various disciplines and experience are encouraged to apply.

Candidates for Associate or Full Professor level must have a demonstrated interest and track record, including national or international leadership, in studying climate as it relates to public health; excellence in research and productivity, including demonstrated potential to maintain a successful program of extramural funding; excellence in teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students; and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Candidates for Assistant Professor should be an imaginative and committed scholar in studying climate as it relates to public health, with a growing record of excellent scholarship, a record of successful teaching, and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students; and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
