Position description

The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego (http://pathology.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body, and seeks a clinical hematopathologist to join the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine, with a potential leadership role in UC San Diego Health's Clinical Hematology and Hematopathology Laboratories.

The position will be required to share clinical responsibilities for a large, integrated bone marrow, lymph node, and flow cytometry diagnostic service that supports the patient care activities of UC San Diego Health's NCI-designated Moore's Cancer Center, the new $1.2 billion Jacobs Medical Center, and the state-of-the art Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine in La Jolla, as well as our referral/outreach/consultation programs and expanding clinical integration network. Teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows is also expected.

Candidates with demonstrated interest in the development and application of molecular, cytogenetic, genomic, and epigenomic diagnostic approaches to benign and malignant hematologic disorders, with evidence of scholarly contributions in clinical, translational and/or basic research are encouraged to apply.

Appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor levels. Series will be determined by the successful candidate's skills and qualifications.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a MD, MD/PhD in a biological, chemical, physical science, or related field, or equivalent, and must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California. Candidates must be Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Pathology in either clinical pathology (CP) or anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (AP/CP), with subspecialty certification in hematopathology.

Preferred qualifications

Additional subspecialty training in molecular genetic pathology, clinical cytogenetics, immunopathology, or hematopoetic progenitor stem cell processing/therapy are preferred.
