The Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute (LFKRI) at the New York Blood Center (NYBC) is soliciting applications for faculty positions at Assistant, Associate, and Full Member levels. LFKRI consists of faculty members with diverse expertise spanning basic and translational investigation into the cellular, molecular, and biochemical basis of hematology and is the largest non-profit research institute of benign hematology in the world. Candidates with expertise in hematology, hematopoietic stem cell biology, immunology & immunotherapies, infectious disease, population studies, and sentinel exploration and/or modeling of emerging diseases, are encouraged to apply. LFKRI is located along the Upper East Side in Manhattan, and neighbors world-class research universities that support a highly collaborative biomedical research environment. LFKRI faculty develop innovative, externally funded research programs supported by competitive research grants. LFKRI offers access to a wide variety of shared core facilities, including state-of-the-art flow cytometry, confocal and EM microscopy, GMP-compliant research spaces, internal IACUC and IRB support, and access to the NYBC enterprise blood donor resources providing candidate faculty with an exciting opportunity to engage in collaborative cutting-edge research in transfusion and regenerative medicine.

The New York Blood Center's Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute seeks applicants for a junior faculty position in the Laboratory of Infectious Disease Prevention, with rank dependent on candidate's record and experience. The Laboratory focuses on studying the changing epidemiology of HIV infection and other infectious diseases in New York City and conducting NIH-funded randomized clinical trials of prevention strategies, including preventive HIV and SARS CoV-2 vaccines, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, and behavioral interventions.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop a self-directed research agenda and contribute to the design and execution of collaborative research projects with the Laboratory of Infectious Disease Prevention (LIDP) and Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute of the New York Blood Center while obtaining funding from NIH and other sources.  
  • Develop and manage research projects, including research projects involving population-based blood donors, transfusion medicine, an/or transfusion-transmitted infectious disease epidemiology.
  • Contribute to design and execution of collaborative research projects, including involvement in HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) and HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) HIV biomedical prevention studies and COVID-19 Prevention Trials Network (CoVPN).
  • Obtain funding from external sources to support research goals.
  • Publish peer-reviewed scientific articles and conduct presentations at relevant scientific conferences. 

Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD, or equivalent degree, and productive prior research. Board eligible/Board certified in a medical specialty, with preference for the medical specialty of Infectious Diseases. Non-clinicians with doctoral training (PhD or DrPH) in epidemiology or behavioral sciences or equivalent doctoral degree will also be considered. Master’s degree in public health preferred.
