Job Duties

Geisinger is seeking a BE/BC Fellowship trained Breast Surgeon to our system wide breast care team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established, comprehensive, NAPBC-accredited breast program with a strong referral base and excellent relationships between colleagues, community and patients that is part of a large, stable health system.

About the practice:

  • Team includes two fellowship-trained surgical oncologists, a dedicate Breast Nurse Coordinator and an Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Approximately 200 cancer cases a year, high risk / inherited risk breast patients and benign breast disease patients seen as well
  • Weekly Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic which includes the following disciplines: Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Trials, Social Work, Psychology /Behavioral Health, Plastic Surgery and Genetics.
  • Outpatient Lymphedema Program
  • Radiology services including dedicated breast MRI, Mammography and Ultrasound are provided in an ACR accredited breast facility.
  • Participation in the cancer survivorship program
  • This position offers education and research opportunities with Geisinger’s Northeast General Surgery Residency Program

Position Details

A surgeon who is especially skilled in operating on the breast. A breast surgeon may biopsy a tumor in the breast and, if it is malignant, remove the tumor. A breast surgeon may also do breast reconstruction following a mastectomy for breast cancer. The surgeons who carry out this type of breast reconstruction may be breast oncology surgeons or plastic surgeons (surgeons trained in both these are known as oncoplastic surgeons).

Education

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required)
