Job Details

Northwell Health is seeking a Neonatal Hospitalist (aka “NICU House Doc”) within the Division of Neonatology at Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

Performs advanced neonatal practice in Neonatology, including frontline patient management and technical procedures in Labor and Delivery, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit [NICU] on intra- and inter-hospital transport, and in other units in the hospital where neonates receive care. Reviews and assists in patient management by pediatric residents and neonatal fellows.

Work Responsibilities:

  1. Provides frontline care to patients in the neonatal ICU, including pre-rounding, work rounds with the clinical team (ACPs, NICU house docs, NPM fellows, collaborating physicians, NICU RNs, NICU dieticians, etc), needed procedures, and safe handoff at change of shift.
  2. Attends high risk deliveries and leads neonatal resuscitations.
  3. Demonstrates competency in common neonatal care procedures including but not limited to endotracheal intubation, thoracotomy tube placement, umbilical line placement, percutaneous inserted central venous catheter placement, bladder catheterization, lumbar puncture, and peripheral arterial line placement.
  4. Provides neonatal care during inter-and intra-hospital transport of critical ill newborns.  
  5. Completes local certification in neonatal ECMO, therapeutic hypothermia, and neonatal transport.
  6. Documents critical changes and management of newborns as well as procedures in a complete and timely manner.
  7. Appropriately bills for procedural, resuscitation, or transport services rendered.
  8. Attends divisional educational activities to maintain competency in current concepts in neonatal care.
  9. Attends scheduled CCMC ACP meetings.
  10. Identifies quality improvement issues and participates in unit projects.
  11. Participates in Neonatal Performance Improvement Coordinating Group [PICG] and leadership meetings.
  12. Assists in intern education on the Newborn Nursery and Labor and Delivery Services.

Experience and Qualifications:

  1. MD or DO degree.
  2. Licensed in New York State
  3. Graduate of an Accredited Pediatric Residency Program
  4. ​BC/BE American Board of Pediatrics

Salary Disclosure

Full-time clinical base compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $125K to $750K, which is impacted by various factors, including but not limited to physician specialty, level of experience, quality of care, academic accomplishments, patient experience and productivity. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
