We invite applicants for a new faculty position on climate change and health. The new faculty member will engage in a combination of research, education, and community collaboration activities. Physician faculty may also devote up to 25% of their time on patient care.

The position is based at the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) at MetroHealth Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The successful candidate will be invited to join one or more of the following PHRI Centers: The Center for Reducing Health Disparities; The Center for Health Care Research and Policy; and The Center for Clinical Informatics, Research, and Education.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program in an area relevant to climate change and health. Examples of research programs include 1) studying the impact of particulate matter on respiratory events, 2) examining disparities in vulnerability to climate change, and 3) developing approaches to reduce the carbon footprint of health care.
  • There are many opportunities to collaborate with other health systems in the region (Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, VA Medical Center) and with schools and departments at Case Western Reserve University (e.g. physics, earth sciences, sociology, anthropology, epidemiology, nutrition, social work, and nursing). The new faculty member will also be able to advance and extend existing relationships with multiple clinical departments.
  • The faculty member will devote a limited amount of time teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, and/or medical trainees. The faculty member will co-direct a new graduate course on Climate Change and Health.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with community members and community organizations working on topics relevant to climate change.
  • Clinical responsibilities will be based on candidate interests and MetroHealth™ clinical needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have a PhD or MD degree and a strong record of scholarly activity.
