The Department of General Surgery at Cleveland Clinic is currently seeking a General Surgeon to lead as Program Director of its General Surgery Residency. Candidates would join a team of 90+ General Surgeons within the Department of General Surgery throughout Northeast Ohio. This is an established and respected team with a desire to provide the utmost in quality care for patients. The Program Director has responsibility, authority and accountability for the operations of the General Surgery Residency. Candidates must have completed an ACGME-Accredited General Surgery Residency, be ABS board certified in General Surgery and possess requisite clinical, educational and administrative experience beyond residency training.

The Program Director reports directly to the Department Chair of General Surgery. In addition, The Program Director plays a key role with many stakeholders in the milieu of GME at Cleveland Clinic. The Program Director dedicates no less than 50% of their professional effort to the administrative and educational activities of the General Surgery educational program and receives institutional support for this time. Sufficient ongoing clinical activity is also required.

The General Surgery Residency at Cleveland Clinic graduates 10 Chiefs per year and maintains a complement of 75 residents including categorical, non-designated preliminary and those in professional development. The Program Director works closely with the Departments PhD Surgical Education Scientist in the design, implementation and research of training initiatives. Four Associate Program Directors provide support and oversight of the didactic sessions, simulation training, wellness, diversity, equity and inclusion, and in mentorship of the 13 non-designated preliminary residents. The program also benefits from four experienced Program Coordinators.
