The Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) at Yale University welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Tenured Associate or Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases (EMD). This senior-level leader should have an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Chair is expected to have a distinguished record of research and professional accomplishment, strong leadership and management abilities, and a steadfast commitment to the advancement of graduate education and faculty development. The Chair will be dedicated to leading and integrating multidisciplinary research and teaching programs that bridge laboratory, field, and quantitative approaches for studying infectious diseases. This is an outstanding opportunity to impact the future direction of the Department and its programs.  

As one of the first schools of public health in the nation, YSPH has a long history of being at the forefront of innovative research and education. The Department serves local, national, and international communities through its interdisciplinary research and teaching on the distribution, transmission, pathogenesis, and control of pathogens. Faculty in EMD are involved in training a diverse group of undergraduates, master’s and doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars. The research activities of the EMD faculty span the biology, epidemiology, and control of HIV, TB, vector-borne diseases, and global emerging and re-emerging infections.

Reporting to the Dean and serving as a critical member of the School’s leadership team, the Chair will continue to refine and advance the mission of EMD. Seizing the opportunity to shape future research directions, the next Chair will have the opportunity to expand existing programs in EMD by acting as a liaison with other departments, units, and centers at YSPH, Yale School of Medicine, Yale School of Nursing, and beyond. The Chair will oversee students and 34 ladder and research faculty across a wide spectrum of research, teaching, and public health practice interests.

The next Chair of EMD at Yale will have a doctoral level degree with advanced training in infectious diseases; a distinguished record of accomplishment in research and training; a history of service to international/national-level committees, professional organizations, and scholarly journals; a reputation for mentoring successful academic careers; and an established international research reputation in their chosen discipline.
