Medical Director of Quality and Safety

Hartford HealthCare has an exciting opoorutnity for a MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF QUALITY AND SAFETY. The Director serves as medical staff leader in the development and implementation of quality and patient safety initiatives across the region. Plans and implements programs focused on quality, both clinically and administratively, promoting the highest and safest standards in the treatment and care of patients. Executes hospital and Hartford HealthCare system wide initiatives partnering with the hospital's Quality Department, medical staff and patient care services, spearheading quality projects, chairing quality and UR committees and actively participates in all quality/safety educational activities for the Central Region.

The job responsibilities include:
  • Works with medical staff and senior management, nursing staff, quality team and other employees, board members, and patients to instill a culture whereby all involved in healthcare in the Central region will take a proactive role in continually improving quality and safety
  • Works closely with the Director of Quality and Patient Safety to: Revise and update the Quality and Safety Plan for the organization, ensuring alignment with the Region's Strategic Plan, determines hospital-wide indicators and performance improvement targets using previous organizational history and established benchmarks; measures and analyzes organizational performance, integrates each clinical Department's Quality and Safety Plans with the Hospital-Wide Quality and Safety Plan using the IOM Dimensions of Quality Healthcare; ensures alignment of department or unit-specific resources with institutional strategic objectives specific to quality and safety, establish, implement, and support programs, procedures, and policies to accomplish organizational objectives and meet regulatory requirements, develop and maintain an electronic summary of the Quality and Safety Program for the region's hospitals, utilizing hospital-wide and departmental data and communicates quality and safety initiatives and outcomes to the hospital employees, the nursing and medical staff, the Clinical Chiefs, and the Board of Directors.
  • Analyzes medical staff quality and safety survey results (culture of safety, physician/AP satisfaction); uses these measurements to develop data feedback strategies, action plans, measurement for improvements at the local and organizational level and allocation of resources regarding quality, safety, and education.
  • Reviews Quality and Safety Reports from Quality Management, Collaborative Management Teams, the Event Reporter, and clinical Department Quality Reports to identify quality and safety improvement opportunities as it relates to physicians.
  • Supports the use of evidence-based approaches to achieve highest ratings on nationally targeted and publicly reported quality and safety measures.
  • Work closely with the Medical Claims Director, the Infection Control Program, Bioengineering, Environmental Safety, the Security and Fire Marshall, Patient Relations, the Joint Commission Coordinator, the Service Excellence Group, the Clinical Chiefs, and/or the Nursing Directors as needed.
  • Utilizes the Simulation Center as part of an educational master-plan.
  • Works with the Clinical Chiefs as a resource for Peer Review activities and best practice.
  • Works clinically in assigned areas at approximately 33% time.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:
  • MD, PA or APRN with 2 years of medical leadership or significant quality experience.
  • The ability to operate in a high visibility, high impact role, presenting content at the Board of Directors and executive meetings.
